When AI meets Co-Active Coaching – A Co-Active Dialogue

Two of the four Co-Active coaches on this panel probably agree on almost nothing about AI.

Michael Bertrand built imayui.app, a platform dedicated to transform the way people connect with coaches. AI helped him make this a reality. Zaf Djabri spent 4 years building his own AI a long time ago, but chooses not to use them today. Both of them have done the work and thought it through, and they’ve landed in opposite places. That gap is one of the reasons we want to have this conversation.

Most coaches have opinions on AI. Some of us talk about it regularly; some don’t discuss it at all. Some of us are conflicted, some are quite enthusiastic about AI and some of us are swaying between camps. So on Thursday, 10 September we’re putting the question in a room for two hours, with the rule you already know: everything is included, and no one gets to be wrong.

Some questions that are already swirling in our group chats – If Co-Active is a way of being in relationship, then the question is what relationship means when the other party isn’t a person. Who’s in the designed alliance when you put a session into a machine? Did your client agree to that?

Chuck Allen is facilitating. He’s a regular user of AI tools who often sways between optimism and concern and he is likely asking the questions most of the room is holding.

Who’s on the panel

Zaf Djabri, CPCC, PCC – Executive counsellor, coach and licensed psychotherapist. Spent 4 years building his own AI before AI was even AI, and has chosen not to have anything to do with AI for now.

Michael Bertrand, CPCC, PCC – Executive and developmental coach. Built imayui.app for coaches, and makes the case for the safe use of AI in a practice.

Leïla Sierra, CPCC, PCC, MSc – Executive coach, facilitator and psychologist. Her master’s thesis asked whether AI could replace your therapist, and why connection still matters. She certainly has thoughts on this topic.

Prathap L., CPCC, PCC – Coach, doctoral researcher, ex-military. Built AI modelling and digital twins to train soldiers, and studies how institutions fail in crisis.

Chuck Allen, CPCC, MCC facilitates. As senior CTI faculty he brings decades of experience in coach training to the conversation. He’s got questions about how AI will affect the future of coaching, which is why he’s the one asking.

Who this is for

Anyone in the Co-Active community and friends of Co-Active, coaching or not. We’d love for you to bring a friend, especially one who’d argue with you about this.

You don’t need a position and you don’t need to know anything about the technology. Come at either end or somewhere confused in the middle. The middle is probably where many of us live.

As with all Co-Active Community events, we ask that you bring some nibbles to share.

It’s a small room and it makes a difference to know who we’re expecting, so please sign up in the link below. The form asks a couple of real questions and takes about three minutes. The panel will read the answers before the night and will build the session around them
